Learning About the Color Red Crafts, Activities, & Food

The 2nd color theme we did is the Color Red! My favorite color and my little guy seems to like it to. Check out all the fun red crafts & activities we did & all the red foods we ate! We actually did this back in February before all this moving madness happened :)

What's the color red theme without a Clifford Book?! I read the book to my son first and then he read it back to me in his own little version.... so cute! Of course my son had to match it to the Clifford cartoon which we also watched that day. He also wore a red Nike jersey (great find at a resale shop!).

I made a Homemade Heart Stencil using a Cool Whip container lid and an exacto knife. I saved the cut-out heart too as both pieces will be great for learning how to trace. My son sponge painted hearts onto a piece of construction paper. I had a photo of his artwork but I am not sure where it went.


On to the Red Foods:
For a snack he had an apple and juice in a red cup. He also had red heart candies (we did this around Valentine's Day) and I am not sure what happened to that photo either.... guess that's what happens when your laptop crashes. Since, I have learned to back up everything!

For lunch we ate my son's favorite: ravioli!

Before bedtime, he drank milk in his red Cars bottle while wearing, you guessed it- red pajamas!

A friend came over and we took the boys golfing (in our complex) and then we moved so we didn't finish our red crafts until another day. [Sigh] and since have moved again.

I saw this fabulous idea for making a strawberry craft over at A Mommy's Adventure. Here is our version of it:

I cut pieces of red and green from a magazine and my son stuck them to contact paper.

I made it a mini I Spy game by cutting red objects from the magazine for him to stick on as well. Some examples of the red things I found are: Elmo, strawberries, raspberries, heart, tomatoes, bull, cherries, and so on.

I helped him with the green because he grew tired of it and then cut them into the shape of a strawberry.


I also incorporated American Sign Language & Spanish words into our activities.

I have been teaching my son sign language since he was about 9 months old, the teacher always said that it's okay to simplify it or even make up your own that works for you. For example, we always signed orange for juice instead of the way shown in the above link. For dog, we always just pat our leg instead of doing both the hand motions. Now that my son is older, he is better able to do both :)

Here are the Spanish words we practiced:

dog= perro

book= libro
