Dinosaur Popsicle Stick Puzzle ~ stART

How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You?

I got the book How do Dinosaurs Say I Love You? by Jane Yolen & Mark Teague. My son loves it! This is one of the few books where he is so intrigued by the illustrations that he doesn't try to turn the page before I am done reading it. He seems to enjoy all the different facial expressions. I have been seeing all these cute Popsicle Stick Puzzles around the web and thought it would be a perfect craft to go along with the book.

Supplies needed:
4 x 6 Dinosaur image (or anything you'd like)
Mod Podge
Popsicle Sticks
Paintbrush
Razor or another cutting tool

I placed my dinosaur image upside-down a a piece of newspaper and spread Mod Podge over the entire area. Then, I took Popsicle Sticks and placed them side-by-side until all of it was covered.

Next, I flipped it over and numbered each craft stick- this makes it easier for my 2 year old to put together by himself. Then, I spread Mod Podge over the entire front side. Set aside to dry.

When it finished drying, I used a razor blade to cut through each piece. Now your ready to let your child play with it!

This was such a HUGE hit with my little guy! I am so glad that I wrote numbers on them because he has so much fun finding which number comes next.

Check out the other ones we made HERE!

We love this book as well, and I think that your dinosaur craft looks lovely. I wish my daughter were more interested in puzzles - she always resists them :)

Does the image need to be on regular paper? Would a photo be too thick or rigid for this project?

Here is a link where she used an actual photo as well as some other great tips. She did not use mod podge, but I would recommend it if you are worried about it getting ruined- the mod podge creates a protective coating. Good luck! Feel free to post a link here in the comments when it's finished if you wish :)

Hi Kristie!
I just googled Dinosaur clipart and then printed it as the 4x6 option (make sure you uncheck the fit to frame option). Hope that helps!
