We had our 1st Movie Themed Craft Day and chose to do Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs. I regularly read the blog Momma's Playground and was so inspired by her super creative movie nights that I decided to start doing them with my son. You can see all her movie themes by clicking here (you won't be disappointed!).
The boys had dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets and dinosaur eggs (grapes).
They also wore dinosaur shirts.
For a snack, I hid dinosaur-shaped fruit snacks inside 2 eggs and they had to find which one had them in it.
ICE CRAFTS & ACTIVITIES:
Before we played the movie, we had the boys do an Ice Painting Craft. The day before, I froze water in a plastic cup. After about an hour of freezing, I added a Popsicle stick in each. I printed Ice Age 3 coloring pages, placed them on baking sheets, and then sprinkled Koolaid mix over the paper. The boys ended up tearing holes through their sheets so I gave them plain paper to also paint on. If I do this activity with my son again, I will definitely use watercolor paper!
While the movie was playing, the boys did a Hidden Ice Treasures activity I saw over at The Activity Mom's blog. The day before, I froze my sons animal figurines in various containers.
They had a blast trying to hammer the ice to get to the animals! We also gave them buckets with water to try and melt the animals out.
DINOSAUR- THEMED CRAFTS & ACTIVITIES
I made Dinosaur Feet so they could do Dinosaur Stomping- this was a HUGE hit with them! The dinosaur feet were made using Kleenex boxes for one set and oatmeal boxes for another set. I glued on green construction paper and made the toes from white craft foam. I cut an X shape in the oatmeal boxes for the feet.
My friend bought Hatching Dinosaur Eggs at Michael's. The boys played with the eggs during the movie and later that evening, I placed my son's in water. It takes 48-72 hours for it to hatch an fully expand. My little guy thought this was the coolest thing! He kept wanting to check on it but after it was finally ready for him to play with, he ran away scared!!! I am not sure if he thought it was real... lol! After about 3 hours, he finally wasn't scared of it anymore and has been playing with it since.
