Sailbaot Crafts ~ stART

                                     Jack's New Boat

My son loves playing with his sailboats during bathtime so I decided to get him a sailboat book from the library. There wasn't much of a selection for just sailboats but we did end up finding one called Jack's New Boat by Sarah McMenemy. It's about a little boy who wants to take his sailboat outside to play but he has to wait for it to stop raining outside. When it finally stops, he didn't want to wait for the big waves to settle down and his sailboat sails away. Of course he finds it at the end and learns that he should have been more patient while waiting for better weather.

To go along with the book, we made this Recycled Sailboat Craft. The bottom is the Styrofoam from McDonald's pancakes. I poked a straw through it for the pole, secured it with tape, and cut 2 triangles from my son's painted artwork for the sail. He was so excited to sail it in the bath tub. Yesterday, it happened to rain (a rare thing living here!) and it created a little river in our parking lot. My little guy had a blast sending his miniature toy sailboat down it! So nice of the weather to coordinate with our book... lol!

We also made a Handprint Sailboat
(instructions are on my other blog).
