This Caterpillar to Butterfly Craft is part of our The Very Hungry Caterpillar Theme. First, my son colored with markers onto a paper towel. The coffee filter is a Sun Catcher. Please see my post from last year if you are interested. I placed it on an old baking sheet that we use specifically for crafts, and my son sprayed it with water. Then, I placed it in the oven at 200 degrees for a few minutes (optional, it speeds up the drying process).
While the paper towel was drying, my son made the caterpillar. He chose 4 red pom poms and then glued them to a clothespin. I also glued on 2 little pipe cleaner antennas.
We turned our caterpillar into a butterfly by placing the colored paper towel inside the clothespin (I grabbed the paper towel in the middle, twisted it, and placed it inside the clothespin). My toddler absolutely loved this project! His favorite part of the book is when the caterpillar gets so big and turns into a butterfly and this was a great project to showcase that. He's so funny, I caught him flying his butterfly like a paper airplane!
Craft inspired by one I saw on the DLTK website.

I love your ideas! I've followed your handprint blog for awhile, but I didn't realize you had another blog. I'm happily following you here now too. Looks like you have some fabulous ideas over here too!
LOVE the cute craft activities you have and can't wait to try some of them with my 3 year old. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Gladly following you :)
Great idea! My boys love this book so we will try this craft this weekend!
I love that you turned them into butterflies! When our little caterpillars in the jar transform, we'll have to do the same to our little clothespin caterpillars!
