Cat in the Hat Playdate with Crafts & Fun Food

We hosted a Cat in the Hat movie playdate at our house over the weekend in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday.

The kids watched the Cat in the Hat movie and made fun crafts!

First they made a fun paper plate Cat in the Hat mask- I love how it turned out!!! We cut out the center of the  paper plates to create a place for them to put their face up to. The kids happily colored the remaining part of the paper plate with black markers. I printed the Cat in the Hat's bow from here and I stapled each one in place. The kids glued on whiskers and ears cut from black construction paper. I printed the hat from the A to Z Teacher Stuff website which I had cut out the night before and the kids colored ever other stripe with a red marker- except my son who decided to color more *lol! When they finished, I stapled each of their hats on and then taped (or glue) on a Popsicle craft stick.

My son and his friends loved the masks and we actually got all of them to pose for us! Baby girl even got in on the fun.

As another craft, I helped each kid make a handprint & arm print Thing 1 & Thing 2. To see full instructions as well as all 6 of the ones we made, check out the post on our Handprint & Footprint Art blog.

We had a red, white, & light blue party theme. I printed Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 & Thing 2 party printables from Catch My Party. I used some as cupcake toppers & some poked into the food. The printables are taped to toothpicks.

The Dr. Seuss-inspired food was mainly all red & white:
  • cheese ravioli & spaghetti sauce
  • red apple slices
  • white powdered donuts
  • goldfish crackers (to represent the fish in the movie)
  • red & white polka dot paper plates
  • red cups
  • Thing 1 & Thing 2 cupcakes
  • Capri Suns & Soda

The kid's cupcakes had blue Thing 1 & 2 hair! I used blue spray frosting to swirl a pile on top of each cupcake and then placed a Thing 1 & 2 cupcake topper in each. The cupcake wrappers are also from Catch My Party- my printer ran out of ink before I could finish so only some of them got a red & white polka dot wrapper.

Oh, I love those masks! This is another great Dr. Seuss idea that I will have to use in a few weeks (because I can do Dr. Seuss any time of the year--muah haha)! ;) Thanks for sharing at Teach Me Tuesday!
